Cuando empecé a esbozar la idea de este libro, de pronto me sentí inquietado ante la siguiente paradoja: el destino más visitado de la Argentina se encuentra en un entorno selvático, sin embargo rara vez las Cataratas del Iguazú son asociadas con la selva, incluso por los propios argentinos. Impulsado por esa percepción, mi objetivo fue mostrar la selva que existe mucho más allá de las Cataratas. La selva da forma, nutre y enriquece a los increíbles saltos de agua que hoy forman parte de las Siete Maravillas Naturales de la Humanidad. Si bien las Cataratas son la dama de honor del Parque Nacional Iguazú, me gusta pensar que ellas son una puerta de entrada, algo así como la punta de un iceberg. En su intimidad la selva emerge, se hace presente. Pide ser descubierta. Cuando se conoce de cerca los secretos de la selva, las Cataratas abandonan su soledad, dejan de estar recortadas en el espacio para fundirse en ese verde lleno de vida que las abraza. Estoy convencido de que sólo se cuida y valora aquello que se conoce. Espero que al compartir con ustedes las páginas de este libro puedan conocer desde adentro el Parque Nacional Iguazú y de esta forma, tal vez, acercarse aún más a la naturaleza. Authors Notes When I first sketched out the idea for this book, I suddenly found myself feeling uneasy about the following paradox: even though the most visited tourist attraction in Argentina is surrounded by a forest, it is very seldom for the Iguazú Falls to ever be associated with the forest, even by Argentineans. Motivated by this realization, my goal was to show that the forest exists way beyond the Falls. The forest shapes, nourishes and enriches the incredible waterfalls that are considered today one of the Seven Natural Wonders of World. Although it may be said that the Falls are the maid of honor of the Iguazú National Park, I like to think that they are a front entrance, something like the tip of an iceberg. The forest emerges in the intimacy of the Park, it becomes present. It begs to be discovered. When you get to know the secrets of the forest up close, the Falls leave their solitude behind, they cease to be a cut-out in space, and merge into the embrace of that exquisite green which is so full of life. I am convinced that it is only possible to cherish and care for that which is known. I hope that by sharing the pages of this book you will get to know the Iguazú National Park from the inside and in so doing, perhaps, you will come closer to nature.
